I paint with acrylics and modify with other mediums. I am most drawn to human form, rhythmic motion, and mark making. I work intuitively on many paintings at once- working on them in multiple directions, letting them evolve in their own way. My paintings often progress to a place or form I recognize, but the viewers are welcome to see what they imagine. I hope to provide a space for viewers to have their own emotional reaction. I think now, more than ever, we yearn to connect to one another, to feel empathy, and to feel understood.
About the Artist
I am lucky to have a studio in my home. My favorite time to paint is early in the morning when no one else is awake. Usually I have already spent time in the middle of the night working on my paintings in my mind-changing colors, minimizing or enhancing shapes, altering composition.
​ I spend a lot of time outside and take photographs that are often inspiration for my work. I work on many paintings simultaneously. I paint with acrylic because of its flexibility. I love texture and work hard to build complex layering through scrubbing, sanding, and applying layers of washes. I work on my paintings in all directions and am open to it becoming something I had not intended. I stand and listen to music and move myself, the paint, and the canvas around and have recently come to realize that it feels like dancing. I work on them until I feel as though I have nothing left to say, but they are never really done. I don’t paint pretty pictures, I paint who I am.
